Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy scary movies: Get comfortable with your partner and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. Outwardly, it could look like conventional biological terror, but beneath Together resides a intense examination about how we choose to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The story commences when the couple relocate from the urban environment to the rural area for professional reasons. A commonly used story element, of course, but that’s largely where the conventions end. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists fall into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a strange force begins influencing the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a methodically building of scares, blending bits of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). The director weaves these elements together neatly and presents them in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the idea of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move in this movie avoids making either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that come with long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these concerns of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to a partner, the symbolism never feels hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Conversely, some couples having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your partner and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform now.
